Managing Stress

Not all stress is bad. It can make you more aware of things around you and help you remain focussed. However, stress left unchecked can cause respiratory, hormonal, nervous system and cardiovascular changes. Long-term chronic stress can cause a downturn in your overall wellness and quality of life causing a weakened immune system and disease. Most of us walk around in a chronic state of stress, and stress ( along with sleep deprivation ) also increases your level of cortisol. Stress can cause an increased appetite and cause the body to crave carbs. Even if you don’t eat more due to stress, you can gain weight due to stress. Yoga and breathing are one of the best ways to begin to let go of stress; when you are releasing the relaxation response of proper breathing techniques, your body cannot have a stress response… even in a moment of stress!

The good news is if you are diligent you can learn to manage your stress holistically:

Yoga and Meditation

Regular Exercise

Letting go of Perfection

Say “No” to taking on More Obligations

Foster a Positive Mind-set
